FUNCIONES DEL "SIMPLE PAST"
El
"simple past" se utiliza para hablar de una acción
que concluyó en un tiempo anterior al actual. La
duración no es relevante. El tiempo en que se sitúa la acción puede ser el
pasado reciente o un pasado lejano.

se utiliza el "simple past" para referirse a cuándo ocurrió
algo, de modo que va asociado a ciertas expresiones temporales que indican:
- frecuencia: often, sometimes, always
I sometimes walked home at lunchtime.
I often brought my lunch to school. - un tiempo determinado: last week, when I was a child,
yesterday, six weeks ago
We saw a good film last week.
Yesterday, I arrived in Geneva.
She finished her work atseven o'clock
I went to the theatre last night - un tiempo indeterminado: the other day, ages ago, a long

Nota: el término ago es útil para
expresar distancia temporal en el pasado. Se coloca después del
periodo de tiempo de que se trate: a week ago, three years ago, a minute
ago.
El ‘past simple’
es un tiempo verbal utilizado en el idioma inglés para hacer
referencia a eventos ocurridos en el pasado que no tienen vínculo con
el presente, aunque pueden llegar a tenerlo en un determinado contexto.
El past simple es el tiempo
equivalente al pretérito perfecto simple del idioma español y son en
estas dos lenguas la forma más común del pasado sin valor durativo. Estas
representan el tiempo verbal más común en las obras narrativas, como cuentos y
novelas y también en los textos de historia.
FUNCTIONS OF THE "SIMPLE PAST"
The "simple past" is used to talk about an action that ended in a time before the current one. The duration is not relevant. The time in which the action is located may be the recent past or a distant past.

The 'past simple' is a verb tense used in the English language to refer to events that have occurred in the past that have no link with the present, although they may have it in a certain context.
The past simple is the time equivalent to the perfect simple past of the Spanish language and are in these two languages the most common form of the past without durative value. These represent the most common verb tense in narrative works, such as stories and novels and also in history texts. EXAMPLES : You worked very hard last week.
