Past Simple

The simple past is one of the essential verb tenses of English. You will need it almost always when you talk about the past (next to the continuous past), in addition to the subjunctive and conditional constructions. The simple past is used to talk about a concrete action that began and ended in the past, which usually equates to the indefinite Spanish past. We use it with adverbs of time like “last year”, “yesterday”, “last night”.
El pasado simple es uno de los tiempos verbales esenciales del inglés. Lo necesitarás casi siempre que hables del pasado (junto al pasado continuo), además del subjuntivo y construcciones condicionales.
 El pasado simple se utiliza para hablar de una acción concreta que comenzó y acabó en el pasado, que suele equivaler al pretérito indefinido español. Lo usamos con adverbios de tiempo como “last year”, “yesterday”, “last night”.
ejemplo :
Did you meet your boss last Monday? (¿Te encontraste con tu jefe el lunes pasado?)
I needed to buy that delicious chocolate cake. (Yo necesitaba comprar esa deliciosa torta de chocolate).

FUNCIONES DEL "SIMPLE PAST" El "simple past" se utiliza para hablar de una  acción que concluyó  en un tiempo  anterior al actual . La duración no es relevante. El tiempo en que se sitúa la acción puede ser el pasado reciente o un pasado lejano. LOS ADJETIVOS EN GRADO COMPARATIVO El comparativo se usa en inglés para comparar diferencias entre los dos objetos a los que modifica ( larger, smaller, faster, higher ). Se emplea en oraciones donde comparamos dos nombres, de la manera siguiente: Nombre (sujeto) + verbo + adjetivo en grado comparativo +  than  + nombre (objeto).
